Miriam & Brad's Wedding at Villa La Joya

This was the first time that we worked at the gorgeous and exclusive Villa La Joya and we had this chance thanks to Miriam and Brad 🙂

Miriam contacted us by chance asking for our help for the catering service and our number one recommendation was our friends from Icaza Creativos Catering because we are convinced of the great quality not only of the food and drinks  but the magnificent service that they always provide to all our customers

After weeks of checking details of the banquet we created a bond with Miriam and since she was planning her destination wedding from abroad, she had many concerns so after a while and tons of emails she asked for our help to coordinate the big day as well as recommendations of vendors, ideas and décor tips. I must say that although this was a wedding on a budget, there were many special details well thought out and planned.

The previous days to the wedding it was raining a lot however we buried our knives, we prayed to God Chaac, we crossed our fingers and the morning of the wedding the sky cleared, the sun came out and allowed us to set up everything on time, even Miriam’s mom an aunt worked with us setting little details like the flowers in the chairs for aisle and extra decorations for the centerpieces.

But, guess what? Chaac didn’t hear our  prayers and luck was not on our side… 30 minutes before the arrival of the guests, some nasty clouds appeared in the sky and every wedding planner nightmare started: RAIN!!

This venue in particular does not have a covered area with enough space for 50 guests and due to the tight budget of Miriam and Brad they could not rent a tent to use as plan B, so everyone and I mean EVERYONE: minister, DJ, audio technicians, waiters, planners, venue staff … we ran to improvise an area to celebrate the ceremony, cocktail and reception.

We received the guests with umbrellas and a glass of sparkling wine and after half an hour of waiting, Miriam arrived accompanied by her father, looking beautiful thanks to the artists of Vo Evolution Make up & Hair and with an amazing positive attitude that we all wish our brides would have on their rainy wedding day.

The officiant for this ceremony was the faboulous Alejandro Borrego whom with his words lightened the air and reminded everybody that with rain, thunder and lightning, we were there to witness the union of Miriam and Brad.

After the ceremony the event continued with little more than an hour of cocktails with delicious appetizers while our wonderful team changed the set up of the dinner to inside Villa La Joya; This was without a doubt what saved the day: we had a bit of luck and the owner was there so he allowed us to serve dinner inside, which is extremely unusual because the use of the venue is only outdoors.  So thank you Mike!

From 2 imperial tables for 50 guests we changed to one long table and still it looks marvelous!

The centerpieces were in charge of DosProducers and they looked beautiful with the color palette: blush, amnesia, ivory and gold. Besides the the flowers there were golden mercury votives, taper candles and gold candle holders;  Miriam and her mom brought from Houston glass bottles in different sizes and shapes with silk flowers that looked real, cross my heart.

Every seat had an ivory napkin delicated tied with a tulle clear ribbon and a tiny branch of eucalyptus.

And to finish the dinner: a tasty semi naked, two tier cake with natural flowers from Pastelería La Migaja.

The rain  ceased on time for Mr. and Mrs. Dantonio first dance as husband and wife and the party started with Mood Events.

A very special thank you to Miriam and Brad who allowed us to be part of their BIG DAY!

In each event and from each couple we learn a lot and this wedding was no exception, I think the biggest advice we can give future couples is to look for venues that have a backup area in case of bad weather, in the Caribbean you never know and as we saw here, it can be a beautiful sunny day and in a matter of minutes it’s pouring with rain. Another good idea is to reserve an amount in the budget to hire a tent in case of emergency and rain forecast and see it as insurance: If the sky is clear, fabulous! But if it does rain … you and your guests will not have to worry!

And we cannot forget all the great vendors that worked togheter to pull out this event, without all of you this wouldn’t be possible:

Venue: Villa La Joya

Floral design for wedding arch and signs: Cherry Blossom

Wedding coordinator: Oh My Love Weddings
